The pick-and-place robotic automation accelerates pick-and-place process at the desired points. It can be for next assembly or for packaging purpose. These robots are commonly used in modern manufacturing environments. Automating this process increases production efficiency as robots perform repetitive tasks so that human employees to concentrate on more complex work.
Pick and place robots are mounted on platform, positioned to cover complete work area. With the help of advanced image processing or vision systems, robots can grasp and move objects to marked locations. With a variety of options, pick and place robots can be combined with various end-of-arm tooling options for different applications, such as assembly, packaging, or bin collecting. These types are manufactured by special purpose machine manufacturer.
For instance, to complete order packaging with defined number pick and place robots employed to pick up objects and place in packaging box, or robots may be applicated for putting parts at assembly station. High level of selection and customisation is possible for pick and place types & packaging robotic automations.
Robotic pick and place systems are flexible for variety of products and plant layouts. As a automated robotic handling system, no operator interference is needed, to pick and place parts from one process into another, or from a process into packaging or any other application where items need to be moved from one place to another. The special purpose machine manufacturer produces this type of automated system reduces worker’s strain injury and fatigue but increases production output, quality and efficiency.
Different types of pick and place robotic automation systems are as below :
Simple Robotic Arm:
The most common type of P&P robot, typically having 5 axis robots for standard pick and place application in plane, like picking up from bin, putting part on conveyer or packaging of final part or 6 axis robots for more complex applications where the products need twisting from the plane, like in assembly of parts.
Cartesian:
As like name, these robots also work in all three axes both directions using cartesian coordinates. They are combination of types of linear actuator and drive mechanisms like belt, ball, or lead screw mechanisms. They have better positioning accuracy compared to 6-axis robotic arms.
Delta:
These robots are mounted on conveyors for high-speed pick and place applications over much longer distances than normal pick and place robot. Delta robots have advanced vision systems to distinguish various sizes, shapes, and colours. Typically ball joints are used for connecting arms to make it more flexible operations.
Collaborative:
A cobot, or collaborative robot, is a robot working directly with human interaction within a shared space, or where humans and robots are in close proximity. These are one of the most famous type of automation robots used in modern industry but they are mostly smaller, slower robots with less of the complex functionality and costlier than robots.
Typical robotic automated pick and place systems consists of :
- A robot – Any of above type
- Control system – To program, monitor, control or linking of robot with other systems.
- Safety guards for robot work areas
- Hand Grippers based on applications.
- A basic conveyor
Conclusion:
So we can conclude that pick and place robotic automation are extremely useful and cost effective for today’s industrial applications, however it is important to do professional assessment for most optimum solution. Along with many other benefits, a best designed/selected pick and place robot system helps to increase efficiency, reduce product defects, improve productivity, reduce wasted space, reduce repetitive strain injury & worker fatigue, allow all round plant operations, and improve profits.
For such kind of pick and place robotic applications, we at Mikro Innotech India Pvt. Ltd. is committed to provide an innovative cost effective understanding the specific needs of the customer. We cater to various sectors like Automotive, Medical, Pharma & FMCG sector.
